I Missed You So I Thought I’d Write

Sometimes you think of someone you haven’t thought about in a while, and you have a yen to talk to them. You pick up the phone, or send an email. Maybe there’s nothing really significant to say, or maybe you have news, or maybe it’s just an intuition that you want to connect.

That’s how I felt today when I thought about putting some words here in my blog. I just missed it here. I missed you. So I put my hands on the keyboard, and here I am.

The summer is passing, and I’ve been enjoying a personal retreat at a time of transition. It’s been many things — comforting, dramatic, healing, restorative, mundane, treasured, productive, frustrating, revealing…I have many more descriptors, all of which hold meaning.

But my writing today is not about any one word, or any one meaning. It is about this moment, this moment of missing being here and wishing to say hello. Perhaps I am dusting off the keyboard and preparing for a more consistent return; perhaps I’m just feeling a warm breeze of summer and wishing to share it with you.

I’d love it if you’d write back! Let me know you’re here — whether with a word, a whole comment, or something from your imagination.

Judy, I have been missing you, too! When you announced you were taking a step back from the blogging, I knew I would miss it, but I respected that you needed to do what felt right for you. A few days ago you posted a Facebook comment, and in the moment I started to tell you I was feeling the absence of your voice. However, I got waylaid by a poor Internet connection, and on I went to other distractions. Maybe you felt my tug anyway? I’m glad for the privilege of reading your thoughts whenever you choose to put them out there. Thanks, and it’s nice to feel the ease of summer, isn’t it?

Hi Gayle, Your little tug must have made its way to me! I so much appreciate it, and welcome all the encouraging energy coming my way. I guess that Facebook post must have been a warmup, because I haven’t done much there for a while either. In any respect, the connection was made, and I thank you for it. So glad to be here, and I can tell I’m gearing up to return soon. Happy summer ease to you.

So happy to hear from you, Kate! Hope you and your family are enjoying a wonderful summer — much more sunshine than is normal for this area! Thanks for stopping by, and yes, I’m recharging with great pleasure.

Dear Judy
I truly loved your blog. So refreshing to show up, ready to just dust of and just see what happens, just ‘being’ who you are. So inspiring and thank you.

I have been thinking of you. Upon checking your Facebook I see that you have a precious new grandchild. Congratulations to Alan and you! I’ve been in a time of major transitions, too. The most exciting– Jonathan celebrated his marriage to Kelly with a weekend plus of spectacular gatherings of family and friends.
